Groupon & Living Social: I’m over it!
| February 24, 2012 | Posted by admin under Ways to Save |
Are you addicted to coupon sites, such as Groupon and Living Social? I’ll admit, I’ve never even used Living Social, but I have used Groupon a couple of times.
I can’t remember the last time because the deal was not memorable.
I have what they call “coupon fatigue.” While I found a couple of deals worth buying, I do not frequent the sites every day or even every week. I have unsubscribed from the almost constant emails. I am over it.
Why? They have the same deals, over and over, and they don’t affect my life.
We all hear about the once a year deals where they’ll offer 50% off groceries or a major big-box store. That’s a no-brainer. But on a day-to-day basis, I don’t need a spa treatment, oil change or tickets to a comedy club.
Simply put, I don’t have time for all of the games they play.
I’ve read articles about how these sites are good for consumers, but not the businesses. So why are the businesses continuing to participate? Here’s a thought: Stop ripping people off and lower your prices, permanently. If there’s an awesome restaurant that’s affordable, people will come every day of the week. Then, you don’t need to rely on Groupon or Living Social to fill the seats when business is slow.
Perhaps, I’m being too negative. As I type this post, I’m thinking of a challenge. Maybe I should try to entertain myself off Groupons for a month? Nah. I don’t have time for that. And most people don’t have time to keep up with these coupon sites. That’s why I think they’ll be gone or changing their business models, very soon.
Do you use Groupon and Living Social? What’s the best deal you got? Am I being unfair? Let me know.

I have used Groupon twice. Once i received a $10 Jamba Juice card for $5…worth it to me. And last week I purchased 2 tickets to go on the USS Hornet for $15…a nice day trip for me and hubby. Being on the other side of it~my son purchased a Groupon in November and purchased me a couple of personalized chocolate bars from a business in Sacramento, they were/are so overwhelmed….I still dont have my Christmas gift, which is actually ok…since now I am on a diet!!
Gee! I hope those chocolate bars come someday!
